Proposed Analysis: | Mild cognitive impairment (MCI) is a condition considered by many as a transitional stage between healthy aging and Alzheimer’s disease. Although its diagnosis is typically based on the assessment of episodic memory, evidence shows that impairment in semantic memory would be one of the first manifestations of cognitive impairment. Our study aims to investigate how semantic memory is affected in MCI. Precisely, we will explore if core memory of common knowledge is impaired in MCI and if the performance in semantic memory task varies with the modality of presentation of the stimuli (verbal vs visual). First, we want to compare data from MCI and healthy participants on different Semantic memory tests (Boston Naming Test, Pyramid and Palm Tree, etc.) and investigate if the performance on theses tests can predict which group the participant belongs to (MCI or healthy). Second, we wish to use the cognitive performence on Semantic memory test to asssess if we can predict whether the participant will develop a MCI (from healthy) or AD (from MCI) in the follow-up. |
